What Is BOTOX®?
BOTOX® is made up of the bacteria, “botulinum toxin” in diluted form. This is injected into overworked muscles that have created lines and wrinkles to help them relax. This reduces the appearance of signs of aging. Optimal results usually take between five and ten days to show and last anywhere between three and six months.
Who Is a Good Candidate for BOTOX®?
Patients who are pregnant, have certain neuromuscular diseases, have skin disorders, or have deep facial scars, are likely not good candidates for BOTOX®. This is why it’s so crucial that you discuss your medical history with your dentist. Ideal candidates for BOTOX® are usually in their late 20s or older and are looking to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® is able to address the following imperfections:
- Crow’s feet
- Muscle spasms
- Lines between the eyebrows
- Horizontal lines on the forehead
- Smoker’s lines around the lips
- Lines at the corners of the mouth
The Benefits of BOTOX®
There are multiple reasons why BOTOX® is appealing. Here are some of the exciting benefits you can experience:

- Non-Surgical: Unlike invasive surgical procedures, BOTOX® is scalpel-free and requires little to no recovery time.
- Cost-Effective: BOTOX® is a cost-effective way to enhance your appearance.

BOTOX FAQs
Is BOTOX Safe?
Despite it’s scary sounding name, botulinum toxin – BOTOX – is considered safe when administered in small doses by a professional. You can rest assured that patient safety is our top priority, and Dr. Aziz and Dr. Hong will prepare your injections according to FDA standards.
It may also reassure you to know that in the first 14 years after the FDA approved the use of BOTOX, only 36 adverse cases were reported. In most of these instances, the adverse effects had more to do with an underlying medical condition than BOTOX itself.
Is BOTOX Permanent?
No, though depending on your skin and other factors, your injections could last between three to six months. Many patients actually find this ideal, as this temporary timeline gives their dentists a chance to adjust the injections to meet shifting aesthetic goals. Basically, your skin is likely to go through some changes, but we’ll be able to adjust your treatment during your next session.
Regardless, once the effects of your BOTOX injections start to wear off, you can visit us for a touch-up as many times as you’d like.
How Can I Prolong My BOTOX Injections?
Though genetics and the state of your skin at the time of treatment play into this to some degree, there are ways you can help your BOTOX results last longer. Here are some tips to consider:
- Avoid UVs. BOTOX works great on dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movements – not so much on wrinkles caused by sun damage.
- Be careful with your exercise routine. High-intensity workouts increase your metabolic rate, which can make your body burn through BOTOX more quickly.
- Manage your stress levels. Stress can have some strange physical effects. At least two can make your BOTOX results fade faster: muscle tension and breaking down botulinum toxins.
- Keep your skin hydrated. Moisturized skin is happy skin that has a much easier time holding your BOTOX injections.
- Put down the nicotine. Smoking and vaping damage skin cells, which, needless to say, isn’t good news for cosmetically applied botulinum toxins.
Why Is BOTOX So Popular?
It’s quick, effective, noninvasive, and affordable – in many ways, BOTOX is one of the most convenient ways to cosmetically lift your appearance. Aesthetics are often considered to be a frivolous pursuit but look at this way: when you look good, it’s hard not to feel good. BOTOX can restore a patient’s sense of confidence, and that’s something that’s worth its weight in gold!
